Surprise, AZ (September 9, 2009) In its latest turn in the national spotlight, Surprise has been named one of Money Magazine and CNNMoney.com's 2009 "25 Best Places to Retire."
Writers gave Surprise high marks for spring training facilities, proximity to White Tank Mountain Regional Park and first class tennis and golf facilities. Excellent real estate choices at very reasonable prices were also cited as an attraction for active seniors.
"People of all ages have made Surprise a place of opportunity and connection," says City Manager Randy Oliver. "The mayor, council and I appreciate that Money Magazine and CNNMoney.com recognize the tremendous offerings we have for our residents."
Joining Surprise on the list are: Port Charlotte, FL; Palm Springs, CA; Virginia Beach, VA; Pinehurst, N.C.; Boulder City, NV; Fredericksburg, TX; Savannah, GA; Traverse City, MI; Lakewood, CO; Philadelphia, PA; Bella Vista, AK; Miami, FL; Fairhope, AL; Lake St. Louis, MO; Roanoke, VA; Providence, RI; Stevens Point, WS; Holland, MI; Louisville, KY; Chattanooga, TN; Columbia, SC; Bangor, ME; Cape Girardeau, MO; and Broken Arrow, NM.

The award will be announced in October. The United States Tennis Association (USTA) and Tennis Industry Association also named the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex a "Top 50 Tennis Welcome Center" this year.
