City offers Sign Language Classes


SURPRISE, AZ (July 31, 2009) The City of Surprise is offering sign language classes through the Community and Recreation Services (CRS) Department, starting August 11. 


The Basic Sign Language class will be held every Tuesday, from 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., August 11 - September 15, at the Surprise Senior Center, 15832 N. Hollyhock Street.


This class will teach the basics of sign language and approximately 250 words in just six weeks. Students will learn fingerspelling and basic signs related to family, feelings, food, time and more. Students will also learn to put together basic phrases to start communicating with the Deaf.


Registration is going on now! The fee is $30 for residents and $40 for non-residents.
