Surprise honors veterans with 3rd Annual Memorial Day Parade
SURPRISE, AZ (May 11, 2009) Join the City of Surprise on Saturday, May 23, for the third annual Memorial Day Parade at the Surprise Recreation Campus. The parade, which will run along Bullard Avenue, will begin at 8:30 a.m.
Entries for the 2009 event include Luke Air Force Base Honor Guard, Valley Vista High School Marching Band, the ever popular "Fire Up Freedom" fire truck and many more. Immediately following the parade is a wreath laying ceremony at the WWII US Army Air Corps Memorial located next to the Surprise Regional Library in the Community Park. This year the event will feature performances by the Willow Canyon High School theater group and a patriotic art show by Dysart Unified School District students.
The day's festivities begin with a pancake breakfast at 6:30 a.m. at Surprise Stadium. The breakfast, sponsored by Country Kitchen Restaurant in Surprise, is $3 per person. Proceeds will benefit the Surprise Sundancers. Reservations for the breakfast are recommended and may be done at the Surprise Community and Recreation Services Office, 15960 N. Bullard Avenue.
