Registration Still Open
for Disability/Human Services Summit
SURPRISE, AZ (January
5, 2009) Registration is still open for the January 10th Disability
& Human Services Summit.
The free event, open to public, will be held
at Radiant Church, 15522 W. Paradise Lane, from 8 a.m. – noon.
The summit will feature multiple breakout
sessions in the areas of Assistive Technology, Care for the Caregiver,
Developmental Disability Panel Discussion, Disability Friendly Customer Service
and Emergency Preparedness. Also speak to representatives from City of
Surprise Neighborhood Services and Wheels for the World:
Surprise Neighborhood
Services Division is providing information on the free rentals of the Block
Party Trailer, which comes with chairs, folding tables, a public announcement
system, tents and recreation equipment. In addition a free Bouncy House Rental
and a gift card to a local grocery store to assist in party refreshment is
included. Come see what all the fun is about and pick up an application to
hold your block party!
Wheels for the World will be accepting
broken or unused wheelchairs, crutches, canes, walkers and other rehabilitation
equipment through a volunteer organization called Chair Corps. Currently
they restore wheelchairs in 20 prisons and donate them to individuals with
disabilities in third world countries.
Various
agency booths will be located in the lobby to provide valuable
information. Some of these agencies include the Arizona Bridge to
Independent Living, Arizona Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired, APS,
Interfaith Community Care, United Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy Foundation,
Alzheimer’s Association, and many more.
